It's extremely expensive to build smart roads today. nobody wants to break the asphalt, install sensors and pave again. that's the main reason that we are not driving on smart roads, even though your car uses top notch technologies. Another problem by not having smart roads is lack of ability of aggregating data, understand deeply the driver's behavior, the road's condition, the hazard arising in real time, to predict maintenance years ahead and even predict upcoming accidents , by identifying patterns, and basically save lives. The driver gets many benefits from the road either: he can drive in a friendly environment , as he can see the road, at any weather, miles ahead. in case of alert, the LED's on the road change their color for the alerted area, warning the driver and give him enough time to take intelligent decision.
